Carolyn McCarthy is all of a sudden concerned about state rights.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

My question to her: Where was the concern for states rights during the 2004 Assault Weapons Ban that you campaigned so hard for? If a state has the "right" to determine who can and can't legally carry a concealed firearm, then don't they also have the right to determine who can and can't own an "assault weapon" or a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition?

Shooting in Brooklyn reveals a couple of problems.

via the New York Post:
A pregnant 34-year-old Brooklyn woman walking home with her child from school was fatally shot as she bravely shielded hers and other children when gunfire erupted on a Brownsville street today.
Bullets also struck an 11-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman who was walking out of P.S./I.S. 298 with her own kids right after dismissal at about 2:35 p.m., authorities said.

1. The most obvious problem is that New York's strong gun laws and New York City's even stronger gun laws did not work. Licensing, registration, magazine limits, extraneous background checks... They all failed.

2. New York City's defacto prohibition on carrying firearms for self-defense ensured that the shooter had a target rich environment. The New York City government did their best to make sure that there was absolutely no chance that anyone could fire back and in turn force him to abandon his "mission".

3. Gangs are the problem, not people who go through the process of getting vetted and licensed to carry a gun, Mr. Schneiderman.

Bloombergia: 31 people shot citywide in 48 hours

NYPost:
In one of the bloodiest weekends in recent city history, 31 people were brutally shot in roughly 48 hours this weekend -- including three kids at a house party-turned-shooting gallery in The Bronx.
25 people had been shot as of Sunday night, but by early Monday morning, six more people were shot in three separate incidents in Brooklyn.
Four people were shot at 12:45 a.m. at what appeared to be a barbecue on East 54th Street. One of the victims, 18-year-old Tyrief Gary, has died. The other three are in stable condition.

Apparently, someone changed the title of the article from the unflattering "Bullet Fest in the Big Apple" to it's current "31 people shot citywide in 48 hours".

It appears that America's Mayor Against Guns has some housekeeping to do. Perhaps he should stop sending goon squads around the country to spy on gun shows and instead put some of those boots on his own streets.

UPDATE: It's now 46 people shot. Some just a few blocks from Bloomberg himself.

This is not a coincidence at all...

That most of the Brady Campaign's top 5 states are the least free according to the Mercatus Center's study titled 'Freedom in the 50 States':

Mercatus Center Brady Campaign
50. New York 4. New York
49. New Jersey 2. New Jersey
48. California 1. California
47. Hawaii * 6. Hawaii
46. Massachusetts 3. Massachusetts

Just click the state name for an example of the anti-freedom atrocities committed in these states against the people.

* No story for Hawaii yet.

Blood in the Streets: Gun Free Edition.

In my last post, I mentioned the gun-controllers/banners baseless fear that law abiding citizens carrying guns would lead to shootouts over parking spaces. The corollary being that with fewer law-abiding people carrying guns, the process of fighting over a parking space would be safer. Obviously, that is not true.

In New York City where the right to own and carry a handgun is severely infringed, arguing over a parking space is still equally as deadly if not more deadly than in Phoenix, Oklahoma City, or any other city that respects the 2nd Amendment:

Gun-controllers/banners love to blame law-abiding gun owners and 2nd Amendment advocates for gun violence. "Shared Responsibility" they call it. I believe it's only fair that they share the responsibility for this woman being in a coma, because if not for their crusade against guns and their blessing of NYC's draconian gun laws, this woman may have been armed and able to defend herself.

It's also a great time to remind you that President Obama would prefer she be in a coma, than able to defend herself.

It's contagious.

Not to be outdone by his portly peer to the south, Governor Paterson has commuted the prison sentence of John White.

Who is John White?
The fatal confrontation was set in motion after a Sound Beach party where police say alcohol was present. Daniel Cicciaro Jr. and his friends piled into cars to confront White's son, Aaron, over an Internet message they mistakenly thought he had sent, threatening to rape a girl at the party. John White, alerted by his son, emerged from his house with a loaded gun and ordered the teens to leave. Within three minutes, Cicciaro had been shot in his face. It surfaced much later that another youth, pretending to be Aaron White, had written the Internet message.

Of note is Rev. Roderick Pearon's comment:
"The right to defend one's home, family and ultimately one's self is at the heart of our history and law," said the Rev. Roderick Pearson, who was chairman of Suffolk's African-American advisory board at the time of the shooting.

Well said, Reverend.

Gangster Government: It's not just a Chicago thing.

From Knife Rights:

June 17, 2010: The New York County (Manhattan) District Attorney's office appears to be engaged in a shakedown of local businesses, forcing them to pay six-figure so-called "contributions" or risk unwarranted criminal penalties, in a move more like that of organized crime than the agency charged with protecting citizens, said a national group representing the rights of Americans who own and use pocket knives. Knife Rights Chairman, Doug Ritter, said, "the New York County District Attorney, Cyrus Vance, Jr. appears to have targeted legitimate, honest knife dealers, accused them of selling illegal 'gravity knives,' and threatening criminal prosecution if they don't pay up. The so-called "gravity knives" in question appear to be conventional one-handed and assisted-opening knives, which represent 80 percent of the pocket knives sold in the U.S. today." Some of the major retailers have reported agreed to six-figure settlements and have netted the DA millions of dollars.

Keep in mind that the same bureaucratic gangster who would ban such a basic tool as a knife would have no problem banning guns if they haven't already.

Being that both knives and guns are "arms", gun rights are intrinsically linked to knife rights. So if you're a member of a gun rights groups, it wouldn't hurt to join Knife Rights or at least stay up to date with the latest knife issues.

Another horror story from the Fiefdom of Bloomberg...

...where only the rich and famous are allowed to exercise their right to carry a firearm.

Instead of reading a story about a shot rapist, I read this.

A knife-wielding man sodomized a young woman in lower Manhattan - and sadistically took pictures of her with his cell phone camera during the attack, police said.

This is why I am unimpressed when the gun-controllers brag about how little gun crime there is in NYC. Instead of sending his goons around the country to gather evidence for his battle against the 2nd Amendment, perhaps Michael Bloomberg should focus on protecting the people in his own city, especially since he has all but completely denied them the ability to defend themselves.

What's the saying? "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" This incident and this incident are the planks in Michael Bloomberg's eyes.

When you outlaw guns...

Women and children will be left defenseless and their jilted lovers will still be armed and dangerous.

From the gun-free, Utopia of New York City:
The jealous lover charged in a Brooklyn bloodbath stabbed the victims - his girlfriend and her two little girls - more than a dozen times each, police sources said Saturday.

Who will dance in their blood? VPC? Brady Campaign? CSGV? Bueller?

Had these 3 individuals been shot a dozen times, there would have been press releases, articles on Huffington Post, Michael Bloomberg on a cross, and calls for the president to enact Common-Sense® legislation (something more Common-Sense® than NYC's outright ban on nearly everything gun related).

Apparently if you get stabbed to death, the attitude from those who claim to want to save so many lives is "tough shit".

Another shooting in the fiefdom of Bloomberg.

At least this time, it's the criminal that was shot.

Of course, the media couldn't wait to sling the hyperbole by giving reports of machine pistol wielding street peddlers when in reality the weapon in question was nothing more than a semi-automatic handgun stolen from a woman in Virginia.

Neither the Tiahrt Amendment nor lack of registration prevented law enforcement from tracing the gun to its original owner. But that's not going to stop Money Mike from getting on the cross.

This is why you lock them up. Part II

A tragic shooting in Money Mike's backyard: Bronx girl, 15, shot in head walking home.

Naturally, this will be followed by cries for Common Sense® gun control, all for The Children® of course. But what won't be discussed is the criminal histories of those responsible for the shooting:

DWAYNE TAYLOR
- 14 arrests since Dec. 2002
- Charges include: weapons possession, harassment, grand larceny, burglary, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
- In April 2006, Taylor allegedly pushed his ex-girlfriend into a wall, grabbed her hair and bit her back. Her young children were home and saw the attack. He left girlfriend’s apartment, but returned and kicked and banged on door.

CARVETT GENTLES
- No prior arrests

CLIVIE SMITH, aka Moe
- Nine arrests since Feb. 2007
- Charges include: weapons possession, menacing, drug possession and sale, gang assault
- In July, armed with a handgun, he allegedly threatened his aunt, Zelita Mighty, and told her: “I’ll make one phone call and all this will be smashed up.”

CLEVE SMITH
- Six arrests since May 2005
- Charges include: assault, menacing, harassment, grand larceny, robbery, drug possession and sale
- In October, he allegedly told a cop who asked him and friends to disperse from a scene: “F--- you. I’m not leaving.” He then resisted arrest, swung at the cop, caused a cut and swelling.

ROHAN FRANCIS
- Five arrests since Sept. 2007
- Charges include: weapons possession, drug possession, gang assault, robbery, drug sales.

Excluding, Gentles who has no record, none of these people should have been walking free. The most law-abiding among them still had 5 arrests and all them have records of assault. And these are all arrests within the past 7 years. That means on average, each of these criminals is being arrested twice a year.

There is a serious problem in a system where a person can be arrested nearly twice a year for 7 years and still walk free. Had all of the responsible parties been locked up for a minimum of 5-10 years after their third arrest, this shooting would have never occurred.
