Northeast Oklahoma City apartment complex sweep nets eight arrests:

“It's like the devil's playground,” said Jashell Royal, 21. “Kids can't play at the park. The last time I was there, someone was running around shooting. Literally, they're crazy over here,” she said.

While the complex houses mainly women and children, boyfriends and brothers often move in with them surreptitiously and cause problems for the residents and visitors.

“If you don't have a job and have kids, it's the best place to be, but it's also the most harmful place to be,” Royal said.

She said she has been harassed by groups of men at the complex. Royal said they rove the complex in the early morning and late at night, especially when the complex's office closes for the day or when security officers aren't around.

“It's real scary because everyone over here has kids,” she said.

“The right to bear arms is the best thing to have over here,” Royal said.

Unfortunately, that right is denied if you live in public housing.

I drive by this place every day and I try to drive by as quickly as possible. I can recall one time I nearly ran over a man who was running across the street while being pursued by a man wielding a handgun. I am glad they are cleaning the place out, but it would make me even happier if those who lived there had their Second Amendment rights.

Who would be against noise pollution and protecting one's hearing? Not any rational person, that's for sure. That's why SB 1743 passed both the House and Senate relatively unopposed. via NRA-ILA:

Today, the Oklahoma House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to legalize the use of suppressors while hunting through passage of Senate Bill 1743 by a 78 to 3 vote. Last week, SB 1743 passed in the state Senate by a 44 to 0 vote. This bill now heads to Governor Mary Fallin for her consideration and approval.

Another good pro-gun bill is soon to hit Governor Fallin's desk. Hopefully she keeps up her winning streak and signs this one as well.

Open Carry in Oklahoma.

Thanks to the hard work of gun owners and legislators, Oklahoma has now joined the overwhelming majority of the country and become an open carry state:

OKLAHOMA CITY - Governor Mary Fallin has signed into law Senate Bill 1733, a measure that allows Oklahoma citizens to openly carry firearms. Governor Mary Fallin signed the legislation on Tuesday, May 15. The bill permits those who are licensed, or already have been licensed, to carry a firearm under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act to openly carry a weapon or conceal it. It also allows property owners to openly carry a firearm on their property without a concealed carry permit for the purpose of self defense.

Additional thanks should go to Governor Mary Fallin for signing the bill. She has lived up to her A+ NRA rating and my expectations of her.

Sen. Constance Johnson is wrong about Open Carry.

In the US News Debate Forum, Democratic Oklahoma state senator Constance Johnson writes an argument against open carry claiming that it's an invitation to chaos. Like any other anti-gun argument, none of her argument is based on facts or statistics and is instead heavily based on speculation and fear of the chaos which has never manifested itself in any other open carry state.

 The reality is that Oklahoma's Open Carry law will change very little of our current self-defense law. It doesn't allow anyone to carry guns in any new public places. No new individuals will be allowed to carry a gun. It doesn't allow anyone to brandish a gun or shoot people for any reason. The law essentially makes a concealed carry license into a concealed/open carry license. All other laws still apply. There will be no more chaos after this law than before.

Jesse Jackson needs to stay in his lane.

Yesterday, Jesse Jackson brought his Professional Victim Roadshow to my beautiful state.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson says his Rainbow PUSH Coalition will organize to change gun laws in Oklahoma, where a shooting spree recently terrorized residents in a predominantly black section of Tulsa.

Jackson and members of the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus met Wednesday at the state Capitol and talked to reporters about concerns over the case and other recent violence. The civil rights activist called the Tulsa incident a "terrorist attack" that sent "traumatizing waves of fear across Tulsa and the state."

"We cannot allow the terrorists to steal our dreams," Jackson said.

Jackson's Chicago-based Rainbow PUSH Coalition is supporting a ban on assault weapons, while challenging both legislation that would allow open carry of guns in Oklahoma and a current law that lets residents in that state use deadly force when necessary to protect themselves against death or great bodily harm.

That is rich. If five guys getting shot is a "terrorist attack", what do you call this? Armageddon? Jesse really needs to concentrate on the "terrorist attacks" in his own city before he goes meddling in the business of others.

And speaking of terrorists, what is it going to take to make Jesse and the rest of his fellow race hustlers realize that the only terrorists terrorizing the black community are other black people? If I were to be shot as I walked out of my front door, 9 times out of 10, my killer would look like Trayvon Martin, not George Zimmerman. In other words, for every 10 black men killed, 9 of them were killed by other black men. That has nothing to do with open carry, assault weapons, or Stand Your Ground laws. It has everything to do with the break down of the black family unit, in which Jesse's liberal handlers had a hand in.

So please, Jesse: Stay in your own lane. Go home. You may find a few wrong headed supporters here, but for the most part, Oklahomans do not like you, do not like what you represent, and do not desire the "society" that you are peddling to us.

Breaking: Jerome Ersland GUILTY, life in prison.

Today Jerome Ersland was found guilty of murder in the 1st degree and more than likely will serve life in prison. Formal sentencing is scheduled for July.

The most damning evidence against him was not only the security video which shows him shooting an incapacitated Antwun Parker 5 additional times, but his big mouth. He violated the cardinal rule of defensive gun use: Keep your mouth shut.

Ersland lied about the events that happened, he lied about his military service, and for some reason he couldn't wait to share those lies with the media ensuring that his lies were on record.

Breaking: Men found guilty in pharmacy murder case

Jurors found two cousins guilty of first-degree murder and chose life sentences as punishment for the death of a teenage accomplice in 2009 inside a south Oklahoma City pharmacy. Read the story soon on NewsOK.com.

If you don't know these two, they are the ones who armed and coerced two teenagers into robbing a pharmacy resulting in the death of one of the teenagers.

Hopefully, their sentence is long enough to keep them off the streets. If it were up to me, they would get the death penalty, but life with no parole would be acceptable.

A humorous aside, the gentleman on the right argued that there was a "conspiracy" against him. He is referring to his felonious past being used against him in court. That is not conspiracy. That is common sense. He is a career criminal and hopefully his proven inability to function in civilized society will factor into his sentencing.

UPDATE: Both criminals are sentenced to life+time with a chance for parole. The conspiracy theorist/career criminal stuck the DA as he made his closing argument. What a real stand-up guy. Obviously, his attack on the DA is just another conspiracy.

Ersland's trial is in two weeks. Stay tuned.

Self-defense comes to the workplace.

Oklahoma governor signs bill that expands self-defense rights.

Business owners, managers and employees soon will be able to defend themselves when they have a reasonable fear they face death or great bodily harm.

Gov. Mary Fallin on Monday signed into law House Bill 1439, which expands the right to use deadly force when in fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm. It takes effect Nov. 1.

Rep. Steve Vaughan, the author of the measure, said he filed the bill partly because of a pharmacist who has been charged with first-degree murder after shooting a masked robber six times in May 2009 inside an Oklahoma City pharmacy.

You now have the same right to self-defense at work as you do at home... Unless you work in a school, federal building, or any other government mandated Gun Free Zone. It's a start though.

Three bills; Each a step closer.

Three pro-2nd Amednment laws have passed their respective chambers with large majority support:

• Senate Bill 856, which was discussed here not to long ago.
• Senate Bill 858, which prevents doctors from asking about your guns.
• And House Bill 1652 which allows one to store a legally carried firearm in their vehicle in some places which previously prevented it.

If they make it to the governor's desk, they should be signed. After all, Governor Fallin has an image to maintain.

Oklahoma SB 856 aka "The Anti-Bloomberg Law".

At least, that's my name for it. The official name is the "Fraudulent Firearms Purchase Prevention Act". Taken from the text of the engrossed version of the bill:

A. Any person, who knowingly solicits, persuades, encourages or entices a licensed dealer or private seller of firearms or ammunition to transfer a firearm or ammunition under circumstances which the person knows would violate the laws of this state or the United States is guilty of a felony.

...

C. Any person who provides to a licensed dealer or private seller of firearms or ammunition what the person knows to be materially false information with intent to deceive the dealer or seller about the legality of a transfer of a firearm or ammunition is guilty of a felony.

Good stuff. Even better, this law would hold Mike Bloomberg accountable for the actions of his goon squads:

D. Any person who willfully procures another to engage in conduct prohibited by this section shall be held accountable as a principal.

Of course there is loophole for Bloomberg to exploit:

E. This section does not apply to a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity or to a person acting at the direction of such law enforcement officer.

Unfortunately the language doesn't specifically exempt state and federal law enforcement officers. So theoretically Bloomberg could easily enlist (read as "buy") the help of any law enforcement agency and still get away with his antics. But the message of the legislation is clear: Outside agitators (especially Mike Bloomberg) should stay out of Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A state senator is proposing a new law that would be known as the "Jerome Ersland Act." Senator Ralph Shortey (R-Oklahoma City) says the bill would presume that a business owner was acting in self-defense if that owner shoots and kills an armed robber.

If any of these make their way to Governor Fallin's desk, they should be signed. After all, she has a reputation to uphold.

Open letter to Chief Bill Citty.

It was in response to comments made by Oklahoma City Chief Only One and potential Oath Breaker, Bill Citty in response to the shooting of police officer Katie Lawson by two illegal immigrants.

This is something very unusual for Oklahoma. Gun banners are a rare breed here. More interesting was a subsequent city council meeting where councilmen Sam Bowman and Pete White applauded Citty's comments. Who knew we had so many closet gun banners in high places? This is what complacency does. Brian Walters was the sole councilman to stand up for the 2nd Amendment.

In Oklahoma, rarely are guns a political issue. As a result, candidates are rarely if ever questioned on their views on guns and gun rights. It looks like that needs to change.

How does a gun free school campus become more dangerous?

When the system that's supposed to warn you about criminals on campus doesn't warn you.

Oklahoma State University sends a campus-wide alert about a gunman near campus, but not everyone got it. The suspect shot a student in the leg then ran away. OSU says it sent an alert to 20,000 students and employees. About 1,000 of them never got the call. The University is not sure if a glitch is to blame, or if some people did not sign up for the alert.

I wonder if the person who was shot was one of those who failed to receive an alert. I must admit though that a failure rate of 5% isn't that bad.

Welcome, Governor Fallin.

Mary Fallin has made history by becoming Oklahoma's first female governor. A+ rated by the NRA and a member as well, it really can't get any better than that. Her view on the Second Amendment:

Unfortunately, many liberals, including President Obama, do not. As governor, I will make sure that no one, whether its anti-gun activists or the president himself, infringes on our constitutional liberties or erodes the right to purchase and own firearms.

Furthermore, I believe that gun ownership rights in Oklahoma can and should be expanded. Gov. Brad Henry vetoed an "open carry" law that would have permitted responsible gun owners to carry weapons without concealing them. When I am governor, I will sign that bill into law and send a message that in Oklahoma, we mean business when it comes to the second amendment.

I am proud to have the support and endorsement of the National Rifle Association in the race for Oklahoma governor.

Sounds like we have a winner and I didn't expect any less. We here in Oklahoma are in a unique position in that there really aren't any anti-gun politicians. While that seems great on the surface, it does have a downside: It makes everyone complacent. Very little is done to expand the right to keep and bear arms. If Mary stays true to the bolded part, hopefully that will change.

Study. Aim. Fire.

The best way to child proof your guns is to gun proof your child with proper training and supervision.

Midwest City police release names of teens accused in home invasion.

MIDWEST CITY — Police today released the name of a 15-year-old male shot to death after breaking into a woman's home early Thursday. They also released the name of the juvenile wounded by the woman's gunfire and the name of a third teen who police said acted as a lookout during the home invasion.

The next time someone goes on about the numbers of children killed by firearms, keep in mind the following:

1. Only in the age range of 15-24 does homicide via firearm come close to be a leading cause of death among Children®. Unintentional accidents is the leading cause of death in that age range with approx. 1/3 of those accidents being firearm related.
2. The age range of 14-25 are the peak ages for criminal activity.

The overlap of those two age ranges is no coincidence. Dying at the business end of a gun is directly correlated with engaging in criminal activity, be it gang affiliation, illicit drug trade, or theft.

So while there are some innocent children who get caught in the crossfire of criminals (See: Chicago on any warm weekend), we can't ignore the fact that a lot of The Children® are criminals themselves, engaged in criminal activity, and rightfully shot.

Or as Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said:

“It is very disheartening that adolescents make decisions to commit crimes, especially this scenario where our defendants are habitual offenders and their actions lead to a death.”

Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Agent Arrested for Alleged Firearms Sales to Mexican Cartels

Reyes is accused of using a false name to buy five A-K 47s from Outdoor America, as well as transferring a 50-caliber Barrett rifle to someone who wasn't licensed to own it. ATF agents said Reyes would also use his residence at the Regency Tower in downtown Oklahoma City and other places across the state to pay others to purchase guns and then complete the work to have the weapons sent to Mexico. Authorities said they believed the guns were making it into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

The murder charges against Jerome Ersland may be dropped.

Why?

That's because a new expert has reviewed the autopsy of Antwun Parker and determined that Jerome Ersland's first shot to the teen's head could have killed him.

Why was the autopsy revisited? This might have something to do with it:

However, the state has since fired its chief medical examiner, Dr. Collie Trent.

Anyone familiar with the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office knows they have a less than stellar track record, rife with corruption, mismanagement and questionable conclusions. Will this be another case?
