Soon, we may all get a taste of Chicago.

From Main Justice:

President Barack Obama might soon nominate the chief of the Chicago office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to lead the Justice Department agency, The Washington Post reported.

Special Agent in Charge Andrew Traver would be the bureau’s first Senate-confirmed director, if approved. Temporary appointees have held the post since a 2006 law gave the Senate the ability to confirm the director.

It's not like the ATF has ever been a friend of gun owners, but appointing an anti-gun zealot straight from the fiefdom of Daley isn't going to make things any better. What are we in store for? Here is a sample:

Traver says the power and randomness of the heavy caliber, military-style weapons make them so dangerous not only to people, but to police. They're so powerful, body armor can't withstand a hit, and they're so difficult to control, their bullets often get sprayed beyond the intended targets, striking innocent victims even when they’re in their own homes.

He's definitely a true believer of every lie in the book. He's also a member of the anti-gun, Joyce Foundation sock puppet organization known as the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

With decreasing funds, increasing irrelevance, and a congress terrified of gun control, this may be the gun control movement's last hope: Someone as ideologically anti-gun as they are.

Paul Helmke doesn't like Sarah Palin telling the truth.

My reply to Paul Helmke's latest screed:

Every year at this event, we hear more of the same fear-mongering: "your guns are going to be outlawed; your guns are going to be confiscated;

And every year, I hear this from the Brady campaign: "Congress must pass strong, effective legislation to ban all military-style semi-automatic assault weapons along with high capacity ammunition magazines. "

And what good is a ban without confiscation of those already owned? It sounds like those two fears are fairly legitimate.

The politicians, celebrities, and NRA leaders say these same self-serving things every year because they ignore the facts - guns haven't been banned in this country and the Constitution, as well as politics, makes it clear that they won't be banned next year, or any year.

Yet that has done nothing to curb your begging for an "assault weapon" and .50 caliber ban. Nor has it done anything to stop you from supporting every standing gun ban in the country, like Chicago's handgun ban for example.

"Don't doubt for a minute that, if they thought they could get away with it, they would ban guns and ban ammunition and gut the Second Amendment."

Sarah didn't lie. Reinstating the "assault weapons" ban was part of Obama's Urban Policy. He also voted to ban "armor piercing" ammunition.

Seems like Sarah is pretty much on target.

Typical Elitest Fudd Rant...

Long winded and predictable in content, Jim Coyne channels a bit of Zumbo and Darnell with just enough whining thrown in to make you pity the fool rather than be angry with him:

The pertinent parts:
For the past 24 years I've been a classic man in the middle, and I've seen close-up how effective the NRA is with its propaganda espousing "liberty" and "freedom." Since President Obama's election, the NRA response has been nearly hysterical, and obviously it has had a large role in the growth of the Tea Party movement. The gun dealers loved it, however; rifles, ammo, and every primer for reloading was swept off the dealers shelves within days of the election, and stayed off until late last year.

The NRA had little to nothing to do with the growth of the Tea Party movement. In reality, the Tea Parties have little to no NRA presence. As for rifles, ammo, and reloading equipment being sold out, it's only because people took Barack Obama for his word. He campaigned as a gun banner. Naturally, people will stock up on the guns he wants to ban and the ammo to feed them.

Lie #20 : This is how they will spin it.

It was only a matter of time before the Brady Campaign used the Fort Hood shooting to push their usual lies.

Brady Campaign: Fort Hood Killer Reportedly Chose “Cop Killer” Handgun

While no police officer has reportedly been killed by a suspect armed with a Five-Seven, it may now have taken the lives of U.S. soldiers. Today, several news sources are reporting that it was the Five-Seven that Nidal M. Hasan used in his shooting attack at Fort Hood in Texas Thursday.

Isn't this rich? A "cop killer" gun that they're not even sure has ever killed a cop.

I'd also like to ask Peter Hamm how a gun can be "designed to fire bullets through body armor." It's ammunition that determines if a bullet can penetrate body armor. Not the design of the gun.

The 5.7x28 mm round fired by the FN Five-Seven is essentially a high velocity .22 caliber rifle round similar to the .22 Hornet in ballistics. In it's consumer form, it cannot penetrate body armor. FN Herstal does make armor piercing ammunition in 5.7x28, but it is only available to law enforcement and military.

In early 2005, Brady Campaign staff purchased the weapon at a Virginia gun dealer and test-fired it. The bullets successfully penetrated a police Kevlar vest.

And as for the Brady Campaign's test firing of the gun at a kevlar vest, they fail to disclose the fact that the 5.7x28's design is that of a rifle round. By the nature of their design, all centerfire rifle rounds will penetrate the soft kevlar vests worn by law enforcement officers. That's because kevlar vests are not body armor. They are not designed to stop rifle rounds regardless of what kind of gun they come from. That makes the FN Five-Seven no more of a "cop killer" than any other handgun chambered in a rifle caliber or any other weapon that fires the 5.7x28 round.

Lie #5: Full auto and armor piercing.

wmichaelb:
He wants to remove fully auto assault weapons and armor piercing ammo.

Armor piercing ammo is already banned and only available to law enforcement and military.

As for fully automatic assault weapons, see Lie #4
