For all the bleating that goes on about the dangers of owning firearms, they turn out to not be that dangerous. Assault by firearm ranks at #9 while discharge of a firearm ranks at #16. For comparison, these are the things more likely to kill you than guns:

• Automobiles
• Falls
• Poisoning/drug overdosing
• Suicide (all methods)
• Land vehicle accidents
• Stroke
• Cancer
• Heart disease

Even if you pretend that all suicides are committed with guns, the average position of guns as a cause of death moves from #12 to #10.
